BiD Student Challenge-The final event of the First Edition

Introduction
The grand finale of the BiD Student Challenge was held at the Grand Cafe of Amsterdam Bright City on the 19th of November, 2009.

There was a presentation on Sustainability and Global warming by the key note speaker, Aart van Veller.

The Top Five
At the event, the jury members announced the teams that came up in the Top Five list. The jury consisted of Marcello Pallazzi(DSEI), Antoinette Gast(TUYU), Sandra Irobi(YEFA), Thierry Sanders(BiD Network), Wim Bartels(KPMG) and Vincent van Assem(ABN-AMRO). The Top Five teams included teams 1, 8, 18, 19 and 24.

The Winners of the Competition
After the teams had presented their pitches, the jury finally selected the best team of the competition. Team 19 was adjudged the winning team. It comprised Michael Bowen and Michael Zhang. Michael Bowen is originally from the United States of America and Michael Zhang is from Canada. However, they are both studying at the Erasmus University , Rotterdam. They have an academic background in Business and Management.

Michael and Michael reviewed the business plan of Barton F. Shasha of MTS-Solar. The business plan was on the provision of electricity services by means of Solar Panels. The entrepreneur, Shasha in his business plan talked about the large potential market for his services existing in the rural areas and even in the urban areas where electricity back-up could be a need.The students reviewed the business plan, by making it more feasible,concrete and attractive to investors. They also provided solutions to questions posed them by the entrepreneur via the BiD Network.

The jury members said the team’s review was outstanding. Their pitch was the best among the Top Five teams. They therefore took home the prize package of the competition. This was a Sustainability Internship from KPMG / ABN-AMRO. They were indeed very surprised and happy they came out as the winners of the competition.
